Bio

Dr. Tiffany Shi is an American pianist whose career integrates performance, pedagogy, and collaboration. Born and raised in China, she began piano studies at the age of five and later attended a professional music school and conservatory in Guangzhou, where she underwent seven years of intensive training in piano performance.

In 2010, Dr. Shi was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Wyoming, where she studied with Dr. Teresa Bogard. She continued her graduate studies at Louisiana State University under the mentorship of Professor Michael Gurt, earning the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance in 2016. During her academic years, she also pursued extensive collaborative work, performing with university orchestras, choirs, and church ensembles as both soloist and accompanist.

Following the completion of her doctorate, Dr. Shi relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she has established herself as a performer and educator. She has collaborated with numerous ensembles, including the Aurora Singers and French choirs, and maintains an active presence as both a solo and collaborative pianist.

Dr. Shi’s scholarly and artistic interests encompass a wide range of repertoire and performance practices. Her research focuses on interpretive approaches to the piano concerto repertoire, the performance of twentieth- and twenty-first-century piano works, and the role of imagination in pedagogical methodology. She is also deeply engaged in the study and promotion of chamber music collaboration as a means of cultivating artistic communication and ensemble sensitivity.

An advocate for music education, Dr. Shi has been a member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) and the National Piano Guild since 2016. Her teaching philosophy combines technical precision with artistic expression, and her students have gone on to receive honors and awards at state and regional levels.

To ensure every student receives the support they need at each stage of their musical journey:

    •    For beginners (CM Level 1), a 45-minute lesson is recommended to allow enough time for building strong foundations.

    •    For intermediate and advanced students (CM Level 2 and above), a 1-hour lesson is required, as more advanced repertoire and technical training need extended focus and guidance.

This structure helps students progress with confidence and achieve the best results in their studies.
